This Is ThatBy: Joseph H. Murray“For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel” (Acts 2:15–16). “And it shall come to pass afterward [saith God], that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: and also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my Spirit” (Joel 2:28–29). We who have received the pentecostal experience with the evidence of speaking with other tongues know of a surety that “this is that.” All who are claiming to be Christians had better, for their own souls’ sake, start asking, Is that that I have this that was spoken of by the prophet Joel, and if it’s not that, then what is this that I have? The devil may have pawned off something of destructive consequence to you in the end even though now it may be favorable and highly esteemed of men. “And He said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15). |
