No One Dies of HungerBy: Joseph H. MurrayNobody dies of hunger, neither naturally nor spiritually. The starving and thirsty man on the desert never dies of hunger or thirst. God in His mercy allows man to drift into a semi–conscious state and see a mirage of a cluster of tall palm trees with a spring in the center before they perish. This false vision is a source of relief to the dying traveler. Thus it is with the Christian when he loses his appetite for God. God allows him a strong delusion for comfort to ease the pain of spiritual death. There is no worry as long as we have a hunger for God; for Jesus Himself said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matt. 5:6). Many of God’s children are not hungry anymore. They have become satisfied with the mirage or false vision and are perishing. They shall eventually die the second death unless that hunger for God can be aroused right early. The Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Galatians, “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from Him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ” (Gal. 1:6–7). |
