Jesus Is Soon Coming! For the Precious Fruit of the EarthBy: Joseph H. Murray“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until He receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door” (James 5:7–9). “Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints” (Ps. 116:15). “Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about? They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious. . . )” (Ps. 49:5–8). There has never been any thing so precious as the souls of the saints of God. This was true of His concern for the chosen nation of Israel. “But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and He that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee. Since thou wast precious in my sight, thou hast been honorable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life” (Isa. 43:1–4). There are many precious things mentioned in the Scriptures. 1 Samuel 3:1 tells us, “the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.” Psalm 126:6 calls the word of the Lord “precious seed”. David wrote these words: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments: as the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore” (Ps. 133). “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!” (Ps. 139:17). “[Wisdom] is more precious than rubies” (Prov. 3:15). “Lips of knowledge are a precious jewel” (Prov. 20:15). “Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste” (Isa. 28:16; cf. 1Pet. 2:6). “The trial of your faith . . . more precious than of gold” (1Pet. 1:7). “The precious blood of Christ” (1Pet. 1:19). “Unto you . . . which believe He is precious” (1Pet. 2:7). “To them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” (2Pet. 1:1). “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (v. 4).
