Gifts and Callings of GodBy: Joseph H. Murray“For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance” (Rom. 11:29). “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal” (1Cor. 12:4–7). “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2Cor. 3:17). “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh [follow man], ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father" (Rom. 8:12–15). If we do not remain among those who are yielded to God and His Spirit, we are not at liberty to let our gifts operate, and we do not profit because our talents are smothered down by the spirit of man. And we are in bondage to the same. And, again, if we don’t stay free in the Spirit, our bodies won’t have a chance for the glorious liberty awaiting it spoken of by Paul: “Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God" (Rom. 8:21). |
